Life Ready is a mandatory 25 hour program for students in Years 11 and/or 12 in NSW public schools.
It aims to prepare and support senior students as they encounter situations related to health and safety as they become more independent and gain more responsibilities.
Life Ready focuses on offering opportunities for students to build the functional knowledge and skills for life after school.
The planning, delivery and evaluation of Life Ready is guided by student learning needs and community context. Involving the school community, including students, in this process is key to success.
The Life Ready course aims to build students' sense of empowerment and respect for themselves and others by working through issues such as;
- Drugs and Alcohol
- Driving and Driver awareness
- Relationships
- Mental Health and Wellbeing
- Independence
Extra activities related to Life Ready include the RYDA (Rotary Youth Driver Awareness) program which is a single day activity, run onsite, during Term 2 for Year 11.
The Sydney Experience, a 4-day excursion in Term 4 each year also supplements the Life Ready Program.
Other specific activities involving the community include Red Frogs, “Break the cycle” of domestic violence, cyber safety and RUOK day. The activities aim to support the content delivered by staff in the classroom.
At Great Lakes College Senior Campus, the Life Ready Program is delivered one period a week across years 11 and 12.
