GLC Tennis Teams

The GLC tennis team recently participated in the Hunter regional finals for the Stan Jones Cup (open boys) and Floris Conway Cup (open girls) state-wide tennis tournament.

The boys team came up against the favourites, Wallsend High in the semi-finals and were beaten 5 sets to 3. Every set was closely contested, and they were one tie break away from beating the eventual champions. They then faced Hunter Sports High in the 3rd place playoff against which they won comfortably without needing to play the reverse doubles. Number 1 seed Finn McDonagh and number 4 Camden Ceccato managed to win all their singles matches during the campaign.

The girls’ team were favourites leading up to finals day and did not disappoint. They won their semi- final comfortably before beating Swansea High in the final. The newly crowned Hunter Champions are now off to the state finals in Ulladulla this August.
